The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) was established as an autonomous institute of national importance in 1959 by the Government of India with initial technical and financial support from the Government of Germany. IIT Madras, with a number of well-equipped laboratories, advanced research facilities, sophisticated services and computing and networking capabilities, is recognized to have done exceedingly well in the fields of higher technical education, research and industrial consultancy.

IIT Madras conducts academic Programmes of B.Tech., Dual Degree (B.Tech. and M.Tech.) Dual Degree (B.S. & M.S.), M.B.A., M.Tech., M.Sc., Integrated M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. in various disciplines. Located in about 250 hectares of natural flora and fauna, with 17 students’ hostels and about 1076 faculty/staff/married research scholars’ quarters, IIT Madras is one of the greenest residential campuses in the country. Faculty of international repute, a brilliant student community, excellent technical and supporting staff and an effective administration have all contributed to the pre-eminent status of IIT Madras.

The four-semester M.Tech. Programmes offered in various Disciplines and Programmes by different departments of the institute are based on the credit system and provide a student with a wide choice of courses. Each Programme comprises several core and elective courses and project work. These Programmes, along with the number of seats available, are indicated in e-brochure.

Fifth Offer
The deadline for selecting the decision on the Fifth Offer of Admissions in the Online Application Portal is 16th July 2014 (Wednesday) 23:59 hrs. Candidates who fail to select their decision on the website will not be considered in the M.Tech. 2014 Admission process.

Those who decide "Accept and Freeze" or "Accept with Upgrade" should make online payment of the Advance towards Institute Fee (Rs. 1000/-) by 18th July 2014 (Friday) 23:59 hrs. Candidates who fail to make the online payment of the Advance amount will not be considered in the Admission process. Those who paid the Advance amount in an earlier offer need to select their decision on the present offer, but need not pay the Advance Fee again.

Those who decide "Accept and Freeze" or "Accept with Upgrade" and make successful online payment of Advance amount (Rs. 1000/-) must report for Admission with necessary documents and ORIGINAL GATE SCORECARD on 21st July 2014 (Monday) at 8:30 AM. [news updated on 14th July 2014 at 2.00 PM.]

Payment of Institute Fees
Candidates who Accepted the Admission Offer, Paid the Advance Fee (Rs.1000/-) and sent their Original GATE Scorecard to IITM before the deadline, can now pay the remaining fee amount through State Bank Collect at this link.

Those who have not paid the Institute Fees should pay IMMEDIATELY.

Admission Procedure on 21st July 2014
When reporting for Admission on 21st July 2014, 8:30 AM at Students Activities Centre (SAC), please bring the following:
  1. Duly filled-in forms attached in the offer letter and additional forms in this PDF file.
  2. Photocopies of documents and corresponding originals for verification. Please note that Birth Certificate is also required.
The steps involved in the Admission process are as follows:
  1. Submit the Updation form and sign the attendance sheet at the Attendance Counter.
  2. Fill up the Check-List and arrange the documents in the same order given in the Check List.
  3. Please sit in the chairs arranged in SAC and wait for your turn. Student volunteers will regulate the movement towards the respective admission counters. Please cooperate with them.
  4. When your turn comes, go to the respective counter and submit the documents to the Admission Staff.
  5. After the process, collect the Admission Letter. Check your ORIGINALS before leaving the counter.
  6. Proceed to your hostel for the Hostel formalities, if not done earlier.
  7. Report for M.Tech. Orientation Programme WITHOUT FAIL on 23rd July 2014, 9 AM at SAC.
