For M.Tech.:
1.Candidates qualified in GATE 2023/ GATE 2024/ GATE 2025 are eligible to apply.
2.B.Tech. candidates from IITs with CGPA 8.0 and above are eligible to apply.
For M.A.:
1.Candidates qualified XH GATE paper in GATE 2023/ GATE 2024/ GATE 2025 are eligible to apply.

For Indian Nationals:
Candidates must register in the COAP portal to apply for M.Tech Admissions.

Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA) :
Financial assistance in the form of a Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA) will be awarded to Indian Nationals doing the M.Tech Programmes, subject to the Institute rules.
HTTA students are required to assist the Department for 8 hours of work per week related to the Department academic activities, such as laboratory demonstration, tutorials, evaluation of assignments, test papers, seminars, research projects, etc.

Non Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (Non-HTTA) :
Non- HTTA is without any financial assistance in some M.Tech., and M.A. Programmes
A few seats are available without HTTA (N-HTTA, i.e., without any financial assistance) in some M.Tech., and M.A. Programmes as indicated in Table 1. Click here

Yes, Candidates can opt for either HTTA (Programme Code ending with Y), or Non-HTTA (Programme Code ending with N), or both, in a particular M.Tech., and M.A. Programme.
The eligibility criteria for HTTA and Non-HTTA categories are the same.

NO. You cannot change or swap the order of preferences after submitting the Online Application. Therefore, you should be extremely careful in selecting your course choice preferences.

GATE qualified candidates and IIT B.Tech. Graduates should upload the following documents (as applicable). For detailed information on file size etc., refer to Information Brochure :

• 1. Upload your recent Passport Size Photograph and Signature.
• 2. Nationality Certificate (Birth Certificate, passport, Voter id, Transfer Certificate(TC) showing Nationality or Certificate issued by approved Govt. agency for Nationality.)
  Mandatory for all (Note that Ration Card/ Aadhar Card/ PAN Card/ Domicile Certificates are not authentic proof for Nationality. Therefore, please do not upload them)
• 3. UDID Certificate in the case of PwD candidates.
• 4. SC/ ST Certificate in the case of SC/ ST Candidates.
• 5. OBC-NCL Certificate (issued on or after 01 April 2024) in the case of OBC-NCL (non-creamy layer) Candidates.
• 6. EWS Certificate (issued on or after 01 April 2024) in the case of EWS Candidates.
• 7. List of Courses and Syllabus in case of Candidates with ZE/ZS Disciplines.
• 8. Grade card / Mark sheets till date for all Semesters

After completing the application form, you can take a printout for your reference. There is NO need to send the hard copy to IIT Madras.

You may apply with a valid GATE score of GATE 2023/ GATE 2024/ GATE 2025 . A separate application form needs to be submitted for each GATE score.

Nationality Certificate is mandatory for Admission

Until you upload a valid certificate, you will be considered for admission under General Category, provided your GATE score is equal to or greater than General Category cut-off.

1. You can apply by clicking the declaration check box available in the application form portal to submit the certificate later, however, before the date of admission.
2. Until you upload a valid OBC-NCL certificate, you will be considered for admission under General Category, provided your GATE score is equal to or greater than General Category cut-off.

Persons with Disability (PwD): For PwD candidates with any category of disability, the benefit will be given to only those who have at least 40% permanent physical impairment in relation to a body part/ system/ extremity/ whole body, etc. Such candidates must upload a valid Certificate of Disability from the authorized medical board attached to one of the following: Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC) for Physically Handicapped persons/ Special Employment Exchange for Physically Handicapped/ Government Hospital (District and State level).

Please upload all the grade card/mark sheets available to date and submit the final result before the date of admission.

If these of your application is "Under Scrutiny". You need not worry. Wait till the scrutiny team process your application. Only those candidates whose applications need to be rectified in photo/signature/category certificate/marksheet/pwd certificate/GATE Score card/supporting documents, will be contacted by email and SMS. The scrutiny process will continue even after the application portal is closed.

• COAP stands for Common Offer Acceptance Portal.
• COAP provides a common platform for a candidate to take the most preferred choice for admission into an M.Tech., and M.A. Programme in the participating academic institutes or a job in a participating PSU (Public Section Undertaking Company). COAP is not a portal for applying for M.Tech., and M.A. Admissions or Job openings.
• The candidate should apply separately to respective Institute(s)/PSU for M.Tech., and M.A. Admissions.
• Admission Offers will be uploaded by the participating Institutes/PSU in a common time window on COAP.
• Each participating Institute/PSU will follow the selection procedure as per the norms and guidelines of the respective Institute. Only participating Institutes/PSU will upload their offer(s).
• To access and take a decision on the most preferred choice out of the offers (if any) made by participating Institute(s)/PSU(s), each candidate should register and visit COAP.

Yes. COAP registration number is a mandatory field for GATE criteria registration on the M.Tech., and M.A. applications portal of IIT Madras.

All M.Tech., and M.A. Admission offers (through GATE) will be displayed on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Candidates must register at the COAP portal for viewing and accepting their offers

Without registering at COAP, the candidate will not be able to access the offers on COAP.
